Then Came the Fish Finder Screenshot
Only hours later, another local fisherman claimed to have captured what looks like a crocodile-shaped figure on his fish sounder near the mouth of the Noosa River. The screenshot, now circulating on social media, shows a hauntingly familiar silhouette beneath the water’s surface.
Wildlife officers haven’t confirmed a crocodile in the region, but they’re taking the report seriously—especially given that multiple residents are now claiming to have spotted something similar in recent weeks.
What Are the Experts Saying?
Queensland’s Department of Environment, Science and Innovation says there are no confirmed crocodile sightings this far south in Noosa—yet. But rogue crocodiles have been documented pushing the edges of their range in the past, with sightings as far down as Tin Can Bay and Gympie.
While some say the image could show a school of fish, a log, or a shadow, others aren’t so sure. The shape, the size, and the timing has locals on edge—and some are rethinking their early morning swims.
A Wake-Up Call for Anyone in the Water
Whether you’re a dog walker, paddleboarder, or weekend camper—this is a reminder that wild Australia doesn’t always stay in the tropics.
If you’re near Noosa or exploring Queensland’s coastal regions, it’s wise to be cautious around mangroves, river mouths, and still water, especially at dawn and dusk.
So… Was It a Croc?
We don’t have confirmation. But two independent reports, one terrifyingly close to shore, and another showing a sonar image that looks like it belongs in Crocodile Dundee, are more than enough to get locals talking—and worrying.
If this is a hoax, it’s a convincing one.
If it’s real? That’s a whole new conversation.
